The German Haemapheresis Centre (GHC) was established in 1987 as a non-profit institution with scientific character. At present two different branches exist at Cologne. At Köln - Sülz mainly special blood transfusions are performed, at Köln - Braunsfeld mainly out patients treatments. A mobile haemapheresis provides for hospital services.

Tasks
Research and development are performed to
- improve established treatment procedures
- increase the safety of apheresis treatments
- introduce new treatment procedures
- find new indications for therapies
- develop new donation and treatment technologies
- introduce innovations, improvements or technical simplifications established elsewhere
Furthermore improvement or introduction of innovative blood transfusion techniques and quality standards for both, apheresis related transfusion and apheresis therapy.
